In 2020, The Infonomist will host a Summit that will outline how South Africa can use technology to address challenges highlighted in the National Development Plan 2030. The Infonomist Summit will seek to outline a 10 year plan that will focus on how South Africa can respond through technology. The focus areas will mainly be key challenges highlighted in the NDP 2030 that includes, Education,Health, Employment and other matters.
THE INFONOMIST SUMMIT: FORUMS
The Infonomist Summit 2020 will be preceded by various forums where proposals for the summit will be developed. These forums will bring together technologists with experts on various key themes of the NDP. The forums are designed to get a team that consists of technologist and subject matter experts to develop technology response to each of the challenge areas.
The South African government has announced that they will rollout digital devices in schools. This has been welcomed (see The Infonomist column) by some and also criticised (see paper by Dr. Nic Spaull). The SA government has also announced that coding will be introduced in South African schools. As the South African government embraces technology for education it is important that there’s consensus about technology in education to make impact. Currently there are diverse views about the correct approaches.
The Infonomist Summit will outline a ten year plan that will be informed by society on how to best use technology to address the education challenge. The Summit will seek to address the following questions:
Do we need tablets or digital devices at schools?
What form of technology education should be adopted by South African government in schools.
How to prepare young people for the Fourth Industrial Revolution?
How to enable learners across society to learn about technology?
Ahead of the Summit, a series of Forums on various disciplines will be conducted to gather views of society on these matters. The first Forum will focus on EduTech.
